1. Margaret Cho's manager is super fabulous and nice and emailed me that I could meet her minus publicity concerns someday when she comes to NYC. I mean, I knew Margaret Cho would be good people because my fabulous Girlyman peeps don't fool around with bad people. And I guess it follows that she would have a nice manager. But wow. I was overwhelmed with the nice. And feel really good about my decision not to go because TV writing really isn't my thing and it just wasn't clear to me what was expected from me going.
I VERY much wonder how this whole BlogHer conference experience will muddy my feelings on all of this, though. All this talk of branding and marketing... I may end up drinking the Kool-Aid, who knows? Do you know who is going to be there? Tim Gunn. And Carson Cressley. And Brooke White, that American Idol chick that Wes was totally crushed out on until dosmamas told us she had never been to an R-rated movie and then he got weirded out and decided he couldn't stand her. Honestly, though, all these celebs are going to be MOBBED. And I am betting my boyfriend Tim Gunn won't even remember the time that we met at an intimate Brooklyn venue. Unless I remind him of my colleague, the performer at that show, singing his favorite song and how it immediately became my favorite song, too. That's not creepy, right? Um.
But really? When it comes down to it, I am freaked by meeting celebrities. There are very few I adore. If they are in a field that is not writing, I don't know what to say and end up grinning like an idiot. If they are writers, I want them to be my best friend and tell me all their secrets. And that doesn't usually happen. Thus my slight concern over BlogHer. Some of the best writers I know these days are bloggers. And they already have best friends.
Fortunately, one of the best writers I know these days has already vowed that we will never be apart and that we will run away and join a lesbian separatist nudist cult promised to hang out with me. And she is hardcore and knows where to get tattoos.
